STOP judging a Redwood Outdoors sauna by its photos. The thermowood looks great, and the Harvia 8 kW heater and shingle roof are in the box, but retailer listings show only a 1-year limited warranty on the sauna itself.
Here is our verdict. Redwood Outdoors sells good-looking thermowood cubes, barrels and cabins from around $6,599 with a Harvia heater included, and owners rate the company 4.3 from 364 reviews on Trustpilot. Its best model on our rubric is the Duo 2-person cube (7.4 out of 10). The 1-year structure warranty is the weakest of any outdoor brand we compared, and the saunas are not made in the USA.
Who Redwood Outdoors is
Redwood Outdoors is based in the Seattle area. Greenlit Content places it in Tukwila, Washington, and Dwell says it ships from a Seattle warehouse. Its founding year is unclear: Dwell says it was founded in 2019 by Killian Lannen, while Greenlit Content says 2015.
The saunas are imported. Long-term owner Michael Kummer quotes the brand FAQ: materials are “sourced in Canada and Scandinavia, and the woodworking is done in China and Estonia.” The heaters are Harvia, from Finland.
Is it made of redwood?
No. That is the most common question about the brand, and the answer is in the brochure. Redwood Outdoors’ 2026 retail partner brochure describes “Canadian Thermowood” and also “FSC-certified hemlock.” Fortune and dealer Starfire Direct describe it as heat-treated hemlock thermowood. Some older models, like the Cedar Barrel 6-Person, used Canadian red cedar. Thermowood is wood that has been heat-treated to make it more stable. Learn how it compares in sauna wood types compared.
Redwood Outdoors lineup and prices
Redwood Outdoors prices change with the heater you pick. These are dealer prices from Starfire Direct on October 13, 2026. Patio Productions showed the same Spirit Wi-Fi prices.
| Model | Type | Seats | With Harvia KIP 8 kW | With Harvia Spirit Wi-Fi 8 kW | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duo | Cube | 2 | not listed | $7,899 | 910 lb |
| Barrel 6-Person | Barrel | 6 | $6,599 | $8,299 | 990 lb |
| Cabin 4-Person | Cabin | 4 | $7,599 | $9,299 | 1,150 lb |
| Garden 8-Person | Cabin | 8 | not listed | $10,399 | 1,410 lb |
Prices move a lot. Fortune saw the Duo at $5,899 from June to September 2026, and Garage Gym Reviews listed it at $5,699 and the Cabin at $7,299. Check the current price before you buy, and compare the same heater option.
The brand also names Cove, Oasis, Vista, Horizon, Extra-Wide Barrel and Thermowood Panorama Barrel with Porch models. We could not confirm their current prices or specs.
Heater options
The brochure lists three Harvia heater families:
- KIP: 6 or 8 kW, built-in dial controls, the cheapest option
- Spirit Wi-Fi: 6 or 8 kW, with app control through the Xenio kit
- Virta Wi-Fi: 8 or 10.5 kW, for the larger cabins
Kummer chose a 9 kW Harvia Cilindro, which needed a 50A hardwired line.
How Redwood Outdoors scores on our rubric
Score breakdown: Redwood Outdoors Duo 2-Person Outdoor Sauna
Calculated from specs, warranty terms and owner data with our published rubric. How we score
| Factor | Weight | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat performance | 28% | 10.0 | 8 kW for about 164 cubic feet (173% of the 1 kW per cubic meter rule). |
| Build and materials | 22% | 10.0 | Thermowood (heat-treated hemlock). |
| Warranty and support | 17% | 3.0 | 1-year coverage on the main structure. |
| Electrical and install ease | 11% | 6.0 | 240V. Needs a licensed electrician. |
| Owner feedback | 11% | 4.0 | Owner rating not listed by the manufacturer. |
| Value for price | 11% | 7.4 | Quality score 7.4, +0 for price band. |
| Model | Score | Heat | Build | Warranty | Electrical | Owners | Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duo | 7.4 | 10 | 10 | 3 | 6 | 4 (missing) | 7.4 |
| Cabin 4-Person | 7.4 | 10 | 10 | 3 | 6 | 4 (missing) | 7.4 |
| Barrel 6-Person | 6.5 | 7 | 10 | 3 | 6 | 4 (missing) | 6.5 |
| Garden 8-Person | 4.8 | 2 | 10 | 3 | 6 | 4 (missing) | 3.9 |
Build and heat are strong. Thermowood earns top marks, and an 8 kW heater is generous for the 2 and 4 person rooms. The warranty factor sinks every model: a 1-year term scores 3 out of 10. The Garden’s heat score drops to 2 because one 8 kW heater is small for an 8-person room. Owner feedback is a missing-data score because no retailer shows a model-level rating count; the brand-level Trustpilot rating is covered below.
For comparison, Almost Heaven’s cedar barrels and Costco Oasis cube score 8.8 to 8.9, mostly because their rooms carry a limited lifetime warranty. See our Almost Heaven sauna review.
Redwood Outdoors Duo: The Model Most Buyers Ask About
The Duo is the most searched Redwood Outdoors model, and the one we would pick from the line. It is a compact thermowood cube for two.
Key specs:
- Harvia Spirit Wi-Fi 8 kW heater with Xenio remote kit
- Thermowood exterior; 68.75 x 50.75 in footprint with trim, 81 in tall
- Shingles, backrest, light, rocks and sauna hat included
- Around $7,899 at Starfire Direct with the Spirit heater
Fortune’s reviewer reported about a 10 degree temperature swing during a session and found the timer knob unclear. Garage Gym Reviews calls the same sauna both “Duo” and “Mini-Cube,” so check the model name when you compare listings.
Pros:
- Wi-Fi heater and a roof included at this price
- Small footprint for a cube
Cons:
- Amps are not listed on the retailer page
- 1-year structure warranty
Redwood Outdoors Cabin 4-Person
The Cabin 4-Person is a small shed-style sauna with full headroom. Garage Gym Reviews named the Thermowood Cabin its top outdoor pick in an April 2026 update.
Key specs:
- Harvia KIP 8 kW ($7,599) or Spirit Wi-Fi 8 kW ($9,299)
- Shingles, backrest, sauna rocks and light fixture included
- 1,150 lb per the retailer listing
The dimensions do not agree between sources. The brochure lists 71 x 72.75 x 76.5 in, while Patio Productions lists 67 x 78 x 91.6 in. Confirm the exact size with the seller before you pour a pad.

The Barrel 6-Person is the cheapest way into the brand, at around $6,599 with a Harvia KIP 8 kW heater. That is less than Almost Heaven’s 8 kW Princeton at $8,932 regular, and close to Costco’s 6-person Emerson, last reported at $6,299.99 in July 2026.
Seat count is optimistic. Kummer, who owns a Redwood barrel, says his “6-person” barrel comfortably seats about 4 because the heater sits on the floor. The brochure’s spec block for this model is jumbled, so confirm dimensions with the brand. Read about barrel tradeoffs in our barrel sauna guide.
View at starfiredirect.com for Redwood Outdoors Barrel 6-Person Outdoor Sauna (Thermowood) (opens in a new tab)Redwood Outdoors Garden 8-Person
The Garden is the largest model: 8 people on two seating levels, 90.5 x 91 x 97 in and 1,410 lb. The listed bundle includes a Harvia Spirit Wi-Fi 8 kW heater at around $10,399, and the brochure offers a Virta 10.5 kW option. For a room this size, we would ask the dealer about the larger heater before you buy.
Warranty: the weak spot
Here is what the warranty fine print shows, from retailer listings and reviews. We could not load the brand’s own warranty page, so confirm current terms with the seller.
- Sauna structure: 1-year limited residential warranty (Patio Productions listing, Fortune, Garage Gym Reviews, Greenlit Content)
- Harvia heater: 1 year on elements, 5 years on other parts
- Homecraft heater upgrade: 2 years, per Fortune
- Returns: a 30-day money-back guarantee, per Kummer
Compare that with the rest of the outdoor market:
| Brand | Structure warranty |
|---|---|
| Almost Heaven | Limited lifetime on the room |
| SaunaLife | 5 years or limited lifetime (retailers disagree) |
| Dundalk Leisurecraft | 5 years (current legal text) |
| Backyard Discovery (Costco Bennett) | 5 years on heater, structure and hardware |
| Redwood Outdoors | 1 year |
An outdoor sauna lives in the weather for years. One year of coverage is thin for a $6,600 to $10,400 purchase.
Electrical requirements
Every Redwood Outdoors sauna uses a hardwired 240V Harvia heater, and the brand does not list amperage on the retailer pages we checked. Here is what the heater specs tell you:
- Harvia rates the KIP 6 kW at 25 amps and the KIP 8 kW at 33.3 amps of draw, per Topture’s spec listing.
- Almost Heaven puts its 8 kW Harvia heaters on a 240V 40A circuit, a useful reference point.
- Kummer’s 9 kW Cilindro needed a 50A hardwired line.
Use a licensed electrician to size the breaker and wire from your heater’s manual, and check with your local building department because an electrical permit may be needed. HUUM’s US controller manual, for one, says permits must be obtained before installation. Retailer Topture puts a detached outdoor 240V run at $1,500 to $3,800 or more.
What Redwood Outdoors owners report
The brand’s Trustpilot page for its Seattle location shows 4.3 from 364 reviews as of October 13, 2026. 71% are 5-star and 10% are 1-star, and the company replies to 100% of negative reviews.
Praise:
- Responsive customer service that resolves parts and warranty issues
- Build quality
Complaints:
- Unclear instructions, especially for the roof, the concrete pad and anchoring
- Missing heater screws or parts
- Shipping delays, back orders and a late heater
- Some broken parts on arrival, such as hinges and trim
We found no leak reports in the Trustpilot summary.
Kummer’s long-term owner notes add useful detail. The delivery driver would not help move his 800 lb crate from the curb, the heater shuts off after 1 hour, and he reported no durability problems after about 2 years.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Thermowood construction with heater, shingles and rocks included
- Harvia heaters up to Wi-Fi Spirit and Virta models
- 4.3 from 364 Trustpilot reviews, with every negative review answered
- Barrel 6-Person undercuts Almost Heaven’s 8 kW barrels on price
Cons:
- 1-year limited warranty on the structure
- Made in China and Estonia, per the brand FAQ quoted by an owner
- No amps, wall thickness or max temperature listed
- Dimensions disagree between sources on some models
- Curbside freight; you move a 900 to 1,400 lb kit
Who should buy Redwood Outdoors
Buy it if you want a modern thermowood look, a roof and Harvia heater in one bundle, and you value a company that answers complaints. The Duo is the strongest model.
Skip it if warranty length matters to you. For the same money, an Almost Heaven barrel or the Costco Oasis cube comes with a limited lifetime room warranty, and the SaunaLife Ergo E7 offers thicker 1.65 in thermowood staves with a roof kit (heater extra). Compare every option in our outdoor sauna guide, or look at small cubes in best cube saunas.
Safety
Saunas appear safe for most healthy adults, per Harvard Health, but heat raises your pulse by 30% or more. Talk to your doctor first if you have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, are pregnant, or take medication. Keep sessions to 15 to 20 minutes, never use a sauna alone or after alcohol, and drink water afterward.
