You’re not limited by room size when you pick an indoor sauna. You’re limited by your electrical panel. A standard outlet, a dedicated 120V circuit and a 240V line each open up a different shortlist, so start there.

Here is the short answer. The best indoor infrared sauna for most homes is the Clearlight Sanctuary 2 (around $7,299 at a dealer, 120V 20A). The best indoor traditional sauna is the Almost Heaven Serena 3-Person (around $4,725, Harvia 6 kW heater, 240V 30A). On a budget, the Backyard Discovery Rylan 2-Person costs around $1,999 on sale. If you cannot add a circuit, the Health Mate Enrich 2 plugs into a regular outlet.

We broke down the specs on every indoor infrared and traditional cabin in our database, compared footprints and wiring line by line, and scored each with our scoring rubric. Our home sauna buyer’s guide covers outdoor and portable types too.

Infrared or Traditional Indoors

Both work inside a house. They differ most in heat, wiring and moisture:

Infrared cabin Traditional cabin
Air temperature About 110F to 135F (Cleveland Clinic) About 150F to 195F (Cleveland Clinic)
Steam No Yes, from water on the stones
Typical wiring 120V, 15A to 20A; some 240V 240V hardwired, 30A to 40A
Running cost per session About $0.22 (1.6 kW, 45 min) About $1.10 (6 kW, 1 hour)
Price range in our picks around $1,999 to $10,599 around $4,725 to $11,999

Running costs use the US average of 18.31 cents per kWh (EIA, July 2026) at full draw. Heaters cycle once warm, so real costs run lower. Our infrared vs traditional sauna comparison goes deeper on the tradeoffs.

Almost Heaven Serena 3-Person: Best Indoor Traditional

Buy this if you want real 150F-plus heat and steam indoors and can add a 240V circuit. It is one of the lowest-priced Almost Heaven indoor cabins, and it has the top score on this page at 8.9.

Key specs:

  • Harvia 6 kW KIP heater included, with Spirit or Virta smart heater upgrades
  • 240V 30A hardwired circuit for the heater, plus a 110V outlet for lights
  • Rustic red cedar or hemfir, 57.75 x 63.75 x 79.375 in
  • Country of origin listed as USA
  • Around $4,725 (Serena page)

The warranty is a limited lifetime on the cabin against manufacturing defects. The Harvia heater gets 1 year on heating elements and 5 years on other parts. Almost Heaven offers professional installation from $1,400 and ships indoor cabins in 6 to 8 weeks.

Heater sizing check: Harvia’s rule is 1 kW per cubic meter, about 1 kW per 35 cubic feet (Harvia). Even the Serena’s full exterior volume, about 169 cubic feet, calls for under 5 kW, so the 6 kW heater has margin. Try our sauna heater size calculator for your own room.

Pros

  • Traditional heat and steam at a lower price than most infrared premium cabins
  • Limited lifetime cabin warranty

Cons

  • Needs a 240V 30A hardwired circuit and a licensed electrician
  • Some wood options showed as sold out at check

Backyard Discovery Rylan 2-Person: Best Budget

Buy this if you want a real cedar cabin for around $2,000. It scores 8.3, higher than several cabins that cost three times as much.

Pros

  • Best warranty at this price
  • Documented low EMF

  • Far infrared heaters only
  • Needs a dedicated circuit

Solo users can get the Rylan 1-Person (38 x 41.5 in footprint) for around $1,799.

  • 47.25 x 43.5 x 77 in, Indonesian mahogany
  • Around $5,300

It has the longest labor coverage we found: 10 years on factory-installed components, with lifetime coverage on the heater core and wiring and 10 years on the cabin and electronics (Health Mate warranty). We found no owner ratings we could verify.

  • Highest price on this list

Finnmark FD-4 Trinity: Best Hybrid

Buy this if you want infrared and a small stone heater in one cabin. The FD-4 pairs six full spectrum infrared heaters (1,750W) with a Harvia Vega Compact 1.9 kW stove heater with stones, plus a ceiling red light panel. It scores 8.2 and sells for around $7,795 (Sauna Marketplace).

The infrared runs on a dedicated 120V 15A circuit, and the Harvia heater can also run on 120V, but you need two separate circuits. A 1.9 kW stove is gentle compared with a 6 kW room. Retailers disagree on the cabin warranty: Topture lists 10 years indoor and lifetime on the infrared heaters (Topture), while Sauna Marketplace lists 5 years. Confirm the terms before you buy.

Also Considered

  • Sun Home Nova 3-Person (score 8.3, around $11,999 on sale): an indoor traditional cabin in Japanese cedar with a HUUM Drop 6 kW heater rated to 230F. It needs a hardwired 240V 30A circuit, and HUUM’s 3-year heater warranty excludes the heating elements. Great cabin, steep price.
  • Sunlighten Amplify II (7.5, around $5,799 on sale): full spectrum on 120V 20A for about $1,500 less than the Sanctuary 2, with a 7-year, parts-only warranty (store page).
  • Costco Sanctum 6-Person (7.4): an Almost Heaven model sold through Costco, in western red cedar with a Harvia 6 kW heater and Wi-Fi control, shipped curbside in about 3 to 4 weeks. Costco showed no price when we checked (Costco).
  • Harvia Precut Room 36 x 48 (7.6): a 1-person cedar kit with a 2 kW heater on 120V, so no 240V service is needed. You frame and insulate the room yourself, and we could not confirm the listed price of $3,566. See our indoor sauna kits guide for this style of build.

Before you buy any used indoor infrared or hybrid sauna, check the model against the September 2026 Sauna360 recall, which covers about 41,580 Finnleo, Helo, Radiant Health, Sauna360, Saunatec, Tylo, Tylohelo and Amerec (kits) units in the US.

How to Choose an Indoor Sauna

1. Measure the space

Measure floor space and ceiling height. The cabins above stand 76.7 to 83.1 inches tall, and footprints run from about 38 x 41.5 inches for a 1-person infrared to about 72 x 63 inches for a 4-person traditional cabin. Check the install manual for any required clearance around the cabin.

2. Match the power

  • Standard 120V 15A outlet: Health Mate Enrich 2, Clearlight Sanctuary 1.
  • Dedicated 120V 15A or 20A circuit: most infrared cabins, including the Rylan, Sanctuary 2 and Sunlighten models.
  • Dedicated 120V 30A: Sun Home Eclipse.
  • 240V hardwired: traditional cabins with 6 kW to 8 kW heaters.

An indoor 240V circuit typically costs $250 to $900 (HomeGuide), and an electrical permit runs about $50 to $300 where required (Topture). Use a licensed electrician for any new circuit, and check with your local building department.

3. Plan for heat and moisture

Traditional saunas make steam, so plan ventilation and a floor that can handle water, and follow the manufacturer’s install manual. Fixr lists a ventilation fan at $100 to $350. Infrared cabins add less moisture but still warm the room they sit in.

4. Read the warranty

“Lifetime” ranges from true lifetime (Clearlight indoor) to 7 years (Sunlighten, Sun Home). Labor ranges from none to 10 years (Health Mate). Almost Heaven’s cabin warranty is a limited lifetime, but its Harvia heater elements get 1 year. Know which parts are covered before you compare prices. Our home sauna cost guide adds install costs to the sticker price.

5. Pick the heat you will use

If you want 150F to 195F and steam, buy traditional. If you want an easier install and lower running cost, buy infrared. Our infrared sauna guide explains far vs full spectrum before you choose a cabin.

Talk to your doctor before using a sauna if you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, are pregnant, or take medications. Never use a sauna alone or after drinking alcohol. Harvard Health advises no more than 15 to 20 minutes per session, and Cleveland Clinic suggests about 5 minutes for beginners. For any 240V or dedicated circuit, use a licensed electrician, and note that a permit may be required.
